Today is one of the spookiest days of the year: Friday the 13th!
At Magenta we aren’t really superstitious, but we thought we’d share these interesting facts about the day!
Paraskevidekatriaphobia is the official name for the fear of Friday the 13th.
Superstitions around the date can actually take a toll on the economy. It’s estimated the U.S. economy loses more than $800 million annually because of fears of the 13th.
The Hollywood sign – which originally read HOLLYWOODLAND – was unveiled on Friday 13th July, 1923. It was built to advertise a housing development, but has since become one of the world’s biggest tourist attractions.
The WWII bombing of Buckingham Palace took place on Friday, 13th September 1940.
You can get some amazing discounts! If you are willing to buck the trend and resist superstition, flights are usually cheaper and it costs significantly less to get married on Friday the 13th.
Friday 13th October is #luckyblackcatday – championing adoption of black cats from shelters where they are often overlooked, being considered ‘bad luck’.
And finally… After every Friday 13th, comes a Saturday 14th, which can only mean one thing: the weekend is nearly upon us!
