This week in Wales we’ve hit the heady heights of 30°c and at Magenta, we think that demands an ice cream or two!

So, we popped to the stall in Bridgend Market and chose some suitably branded scoops to cool us down!

As a little bit of Friday trivia we did a little research and found out that as well as being delicious, ice cream has some health benefits and we are going to hang on to these this weekend, rather than counting calories!

Source of Vitamins – Ice cream is a source of vitamins A, B-6, B-12, C, D, and E! It doesn’t stop there, it also contains vitamin K, which prevents blood clotting as well as niacin, thiamine, and riboflavin.

Provides Energy – Not only does ice cream have nutritional value, it also is an incredible source of energy.

Source of Minerals – Minerals like calcium and phosphorus are found in ice cream. Calcium is an essential mineral for us as it maintains strong bones and reduces the chances of kidney stones. Mood swings can also be prevented by eating ice cream. Who knew!?!?

Most importantly it stimulates the brain and make you happy! – Ice cream stimulates the thrombotonin, which is a hormone of happiness and helps in reducing the levels of stress in the body. Researchers out of the Institute of Psychiatry in London tracked the brain activity of people eating vanilla ice cream. As soon as the participants swallowed ice cream, they saw an immediate effect on an area of the brain called the orbitofrontal cortex, a pleasure centre that activates when people enjoy themselves.

Now, let’s get one thing straight, giving ice cream advice is not regulated by the FCA and after listing all benefits of ice cream, by no means do we suggest you eat as much ice cream as you can or that you binge on ice cream this weekend!

Choose your flavours wisely and eat responsibly. Everything in moderation!
