Resolutions and Goals for 2017

So, 2017 is here and for most, today is the first day back at work and back to ‘normal’.

Like the Magenta team, you have no doubt been thinking about what you would like to achieve this year… and working on mustering the motivation to work out how you will do these things.

New Year’s resolutions are a great way to motivate yourself to move forward and achieve your goals, but lots of people struggle to stick to their resolutions.

Often this is because the resolutions are unrealistic, maybe not specific or it can be that you don’t care enough about the resolution you have made.

So, here are a few dos and don’ts and some things to ask yourself about resolutions – to make sure you can achieve them and make 2017 amazing!

Have you made too many resolutions? – Don’t be too overzealous!

  1. Which resolution will you work on first? – Do prioritise but don’t make it too complex.
  2. Are they tied to specific goals? – Do try to be specific, this will give you a better chance of keeping your resolutions.
  3. Are these goals you would LOVE to achieve? – Do choose things you can be passionate and positive about.
  4. How will you reward yourself when you achieve the goals? – Do celebrate and reward yourself along the way – at a half way point for example!
  5. How will I measure my success? – Do log your progress.
  6. How do you need to plan your life and other commitments around you goal? – Do accept you may need to change your routine to ensure you can reach your goals.

Whether your goal is to smile more, save more, exercise better, travel further or eat better…. Make sure you set goals and have a plan and talk to us is you are unsure if your goals can be financially achieved.

We thought we would share these words, by Christopher Sarsfield, published in the Big Issue just before Christmas.

Happy New Year from all the team at Magenta.

Give this day a goal

 By CA Sarsfield

Give this day a goal, or two or three or a dozen.
The set about one by one, trying to make them come true.
You can accomplish just about anything you ask of yourself.
But remember, in order to accomplish, you do need to ask.

Make your goals specific and clear.
When you know exactly what you intend to do.
You’re well on you way to getting it done.
Make you goals meaningful and memorable,

because the more they mean to you,
the less likely you are to become sidetracked,
by all the distractions that will come your way,
As you go about your daily work.

Give this day a goal,
and focus all your energy on accomplishment,
and this day, in return, will give you great value
and joy that lasts for a long time.
